Sam Tramiel: Jaguar Not a Make Or Break Product For Atari (w/ Aaron B.)
By Cyril Lachel     |   Posted on August 27, 2014   |   Episode 3 (Show Archive)

Welcome to Interview Reenactment Theater, where we recreate some of the greatest video game interviews of all time. Today's episode reenacts Next Generation magazine's 1995 interview with Sam Tramiel, who was the head of Atari during the days of the Jaguar. This is the first of two combative interviews, which eventually leads Sam to threaten a lawsuit against Sony. This episode is not to be missed.

CAST: Cyril Lachel as Next Generation, Aaron as Sam Tramiel.

WHO IS SAM TRAMIEL: Sam is best known as the President and CEO of Atari. But don't get too excited, because he wasn't there during the golden age of Atari. Instead, Sam oversaw some of Atari's most controversial decisions, including the release of the Jaguar. The 64-bit disappointment was just the start of Atari's problems, which would eventually lead to Sam threatening to sue Sony.

This is the first of two Sam Tramiel interviews. This meeting is especially interesting, as it is coming right as the Jaguar is starting to crumble and the next generation consoles are about to hit store shelves. But Sam doesn't seem too concerned about Sony, Sega and Nintendo, as he holds patents and has powerful lawyers. Think of this episode as an appetizer for the main course, where he truly becomes unhinged.

SPECIAL THANKS: We would like to thank Next Generation magazine for not only running this interview, but also asking challenging questions. This episode would not have been possible without the editors at Next Generation, as well as Sam Tramiel. We would also like to thank Aaron for providing the voice of Sam Tramiel. Make sure and check out Game Enthus. Not only do they offer a weekly podcast, but they have a wealth of video previews that are worth checking out. Dig around his site long enough and you may discover an episode starring somebody with a familiar voice.
