Want to play classic games on your PlayStation 5? What about experiencing some of the PlayStation Portable's greatest hits? If you're a fan of some of Sony's earliest games, then I have good news for you: PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2 and PSP games are now available for purchase on the PlayStation's online store. PlayStation Plus Extra members will also have access to these old school games.

SONY PLAYSTATION: After a number of failed attempts to break into the games industry partnering with more established companies, Sony decided to go it alone with their first home console – the Sony PlayStation. This 32-bit wonder hit North America in 1995 and dominated the sales chart with a wide-ranging selection of hit franchises, including Metal Gear Solid, Tekken, Gran Turismo, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil and more. The system would go on to sell more than 100 million units and help usher in a new generation filled with 3D video games.

SONY PLAYSTATION PORTABLE: Sony's first foray into handheld gaming came in 2005 with the release of the PlayStation Portable, a UMD-based system that shrunk down many of the top PlayStation franchises. While always overshadowed by the more successful Nintendo DS, the PSP still managed to sell more than 80 million units and delivered a strong selection of games (both big and small) up until 2011, when it was succeeded by the PlayStation Vita.
