Story Breakdown: Dead Connection (Arcade)

One of the best parts of a video game is the ending, but who has the time to go back and play through every game? Let me introduce you to Game Over: The Early Years, the weekly show where we dive into classic games and spoil both their stories and endings. From the biggest hits to obscure classics, we're taking a look at some of the best and most memorable conclusions in video game history.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of The Godfather, a movie that is widely considered to be one of the greatest gangster films ever made. This iconic birthday made me wonder what The Godfather of video games would be. I mean, besides The Godfather video game from 2006 or its ill-conceived 2009 sequel. Is the greatest gangster game of all time one of the Grand Theft Auto sequels? Perhaps Mafia? Or maybe it's Scarface? Okay, it's definitely not Scarface. Honestly, I don't know what the best gangster game is, but if you were to put my head in a vice and make me choose, I would nominate the 1992 arcade shooter Dead Connection. This is an action-packed romp through the 1950s with plenty of explosive moments and a surprisingly deep story. And best of all, much like The Godfather, this Taito classic is celebrating an important anniversary this year. So, turn back now if you don't want to know what happens next, because today we're spoiling the story and ending for the arcade game Dead Connection. This is Game Over: The Early Years!

Still want more endings? Then I recommend you discover 23 Endings: The Early Years, the holiday series that ran during the 2017 holiday season. We cover Ninja Gaiden, Street Fighter II, Super Mario Bros. 2, Ghostbusters, Golden Axe, Metroid, Double Dragon, Flashback, Final Fight and many more!

And while you're just clicking on stuff at random, I suggest you head over to the Defunct Games YouTube page and subscribe to the channel. We're posting new episodes of Game Over: The Early Years every Monday, along with brand new game reviews throughout the week.
