World of Illusion: Which Country Had the Best Cover Art?

Welcome to a brand new episode of Defunct Games Decides, the show that isn't afraid to get to the bottom of classic video game arguments. Today we're looking at World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, the 16-bit follow-up to Sega's incredible Castle of Illusion. When it comes to the old school design, does the American cover art reign supreme or is the Japanese cover better?
World of Illusion: West vs. East

WEST: Although the Genesis box has a slightly different look, both the U.S. and Europe use this artwork. Here we see our heroes riding a flying carpet, with Mickey out front and ready for excitement. And seeing as this is his third trip into the various worlds of Illusion, it makes sense that he would be a seasoned veteran. Donald, on the other hand, is a wreck. He can barely believe he's sitting (and nearly falling off) the flying carpet. Just imagine how much more freaked out he'll be if turns around and sees the deadly cloud monster.

EAST: The roles are reversed on the Japanese cover. Forget flying carpets, because our heroes are back on earth and up to mundane tasks. In this case, Donald is reaching for something in a tree. That's not as exciting as getting chased by a cloud monster, but whatever. Mickey is noticeably annoyed, undoubtedly kicking himself for inviting Donald Duck along. For better or worse, this design accurately points out what it's like to work with another strong personality.

VERDICT: As much as I love seeing Mickey Mouse visibly upset with Donald Duck, I can't bring myself to pick the Japanese design. We see a pink castle in the distance, a large field and what looks like cliff side rocks, but none of it is magical or even interesting. We see the world, but not the illusion. On the other hand, the Western box has a flying carpet, a cloud monster and comical reactions from both heroes. There's even a magic wand. Without even a hint of magic on the Japanese cover, I am forced to pick the European/American design.
