18 Wheeler: All American Trucker

It's not hard to put your finger on the attraction to big 18 wheel trucks, a destination, and a race. Ever since I first saw Steven Spielberg's Duel I knew just how great it would be to race with a big truck. Well, here's your chance.

I'd be lying if I said that 18 Wheeler: All American Trucker was everything I had been waiting for ... but it's darn close. The game features several sprawling levels that take you along the coast, through the Midwest, and even through skyscrapers in the big cities. The problem is that the levels are far too short, and there aren't enough of them.

18 Wheeler basically reuses the Crazy Taxi engine. Unlike Crazy Taxi this game is slightly more linear, and in the end quite a bit less fun. Also different is the amount of detail in the backgrounds. Several levels here feature neat effects like twisters and other natural disasters.

After several races you'll quickly grow tired of the redundant game play. There's a nice two player game, but even that feels limited, especially in this years gaming climate. In the end the game suffers from too few levels, no online play, and it's lack of depth. Pick it up after you've grown tired of both Crazy Taxis ... but only after that.
