Like most other Neo Geo Pocket puzzlers, Magic Drop Pocket all comes down to a straight comparison of the original Magic Drop arcade game. If you are not a fan of games like Puzzle Bobble or Puzzle Link, Magic Drop Pocket likely won't appeal to you, however, if you have a sweet tooth for highly addictive color matching games then this mini version of Magic Drop is for you.
First and foremost, this game looks HORRIBLE. This is one of the worst looking puzzlers out there. Period. But it's pretty darn fast, and you never really notice these gut wrenchingly horrible visuals. The sound isn't any better ... but for my own sanity I'll just leave it at that.
Unlike Magic Pocket Pocket's bigger brother, you only see only player at a time, and have to judge how you are doing by the other characters score. This isn't so bad, I quickly found, because I wasn't as tempted to pay attention to the other players screen when I couldn't. I did a lot better here because of it ... or it could have been because this game is a lot easier than it's arcade counter part.
The game is a blast for two players, too. But there is a problem with the length of the game and the options. There aren't that many ways of playing the game, and compared to Puzzle Link or other puzzlers with more variety Magic Drop is kind of hard to recommend. But truth be told, if you give this a play you will likely become addicted. Don't say I didn't warn you!
