Welcome to 30 Ridiculous Retro Rumors, a brand new series that will run daily between November 26 and December 25, 2015. This is a series where we debunk some of the craziest rumors and predictions of all time. Today two of the biggest forces are about to come together for something truly spectacular. According to Electronic Gaming Monthly, Capcom is hard at work on Street Fighter vs. Dragon Ball. See for yourself in today's episode of 30 Ridiculous Retro Rumors.

This is a real rumor taken directly from the April 2002 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly ...

A decade after the release of Street Fighter II, Capcom's fighting franchise was in a weird place. We had already seen Street Fighter III come and go, and the Alpha series was already long in the tooth. With no plans to work on a fourth installment, Capcom devoted their attention to creating blatant fan service.

It all started in 1996, when Capcom paired their World Warriors with Charles Xavier's pupils in X-Men vs. Street Fighter. This opened the floodgates for Marvel vs. Capcom, Capcom vs. SNK and eventually Street Fighter X Tekken. For a brief moment, it looked like we were going to see Ryu and Ken go up against all of our favorite franchises.

Perhaps that explains this prediction, which sees Quartermann suggest that Capcom vs. Dragon Ball could be a reality in the near future. As somebody who has reviewed countless Dragon Ball Z games, I can see the potential in this match-up. But alas, this was yet another rumor too good to be true. Our dreams of a Guile vs. Goku battle royale would have to wait, because this fireball fest never happened.

To Quartermann's credit, he does admit that this rumor is far-fetched. He mocks the bizarro pairing as being part of the Twlight Zone, so it's clear he doesn't even believe this game will see the light of day. However, that doesn't explain his confident assurance that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is already in development. Considering that the long-awaited third installment didn't hit store shelves until 2011, I have a hard time believing it was well under way in 2002.
