Purpose: Although this is a list of power-ups, I doubt anybody would consider the rocket skates to be a worthwhile item. Things are bad from the moment you strap them on. As soon as the rocket takes charge, ToeJam and/or Earl veer wildly out of control thanks to the super-charged speed. This is fine if you're out in the middle of the ocean, but terrible if you're a few feet away from the edge of the level. Few power-ups will make you lose your progress faster than the speed skates.

Legacy: Although the speed skates are among the most memorable items in ToeJam & Earl, they didn't make their way into the 1993 sequel. There are skates in ToeJam & Earl III for the Xbox, but it's not the same thing. Maybe that's for the best.

In Real Life: If you watched the above video, then you already know the dangers of adding rockets to skates, skateboards and just about anything else with wheels. Usually this simply results in a bruised butt, however, that extra speed can be dangerous if you're not careful. All it takes is you speeding uncontrollably into a car or tree. Believe me, that's not the way you want to die.
