Team ICO Hard At Work on Shadow of the Colossus 2 (Retro Rumors #18)

Welcome to 30 Ridiculous Retro Rumors, a brand new series that will run daily between November 26 and December 25, 2015. This is a series where we debunk some of the craziest rumors and predictions of all time. Today we're taking a look at the brand new game from Team ICO. No, I'm not talking about The Last Guardian. Electronic Gaming Monthly has the scoop in today's episode of 30 Ridiculous Retro Rumors.

This is a real rumor taken directly from the January 2006 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly ...

I want you to remember where you were in January 2006. Hostel was torturing movie goers, D4L's Laffy Taffy had just topped the charts and NASA launched their first mission to Pluto. Only months into gaming's seventh generation, fans of Team ICO, the makers of the critically-acclaimed Shadow of the Colossus, were already gearing up for the next artistic masterpiece.

Although the music and movies may have changed, fans of Team ICO continue to wait for the next adventure. Instead of diving into a multiplayer follow-up to Shadow of the Colossus, the beloved company chose to work on The Last Guardian, a brand new IP starring a boy and his giant dog.

From the moment it debuted at E3 2009, PlayStation 3 owners were excited to dive into The Last Guardian. But as the years of development stretched on, all but the most loyal fans lost hope. And with silence from both Sony and the developer, it looked like we might go another decade without a game from Team ICO.

Earlier this year, Sony surprised everybody by reviving the long-stalled project and moving it to the PlayStation 4. Granted, it's still not on store shelves, but for the first time in years, it looks like we'll have a chance to explore The Last Guardian. Who would have guessed the NASA mission to Pluto would move faster than Team ICO?
