The Code that Broke your Genesis!

This Zelda code is one of the most popular, and thankfully doesn't require you to damage your console in the process!
Defunct Games has never been interested in posting cheat codes and strategy guides, they are tacky and entirely too easy to find on the web. We suggest you play through the game fair and square, without cheating yourself out of the satisfaction of doing the honest thing. We cringe when we hear people talk about beating a game in mere hours thanks to a plug in cheat device, and our blood boils when they take those cheats online and ruin the fun for the rest of us. Defunct Games is against cheat codes, and we're not going to budge on our position.

But if you're going to do a cheat code, why not make it one that you will always remember? Why not attempt a cheat that is more than a code, it's a whole risky endeavor. We're not talking about any old code here; we're talking about the stage select for Last Battle and whether or not you're willing to risk your console to try it!

If you're going to go ahead and do a code like this, you're going to need to make some tough decisions. Are you the kind of person that would put their Genesis and games in harms way for a simple cheat? If so, there are a few things you are going to need. We've included a list of the parts you will need to pull off this dangerous stunt.

One (1) copy of Last Battle
One (1) copy of Space Harrier II
One (1) Sega Genesis console with control

First, put in your copy of Space Harrier II and go into the options screen. Now - without switching off the power - carefully remove the game

God I love this bonus game ... but that doesn't change the fact that it's NOT in this Midway Collection!
and insert your Last Blade cartridge. Push the reset button, and when the screen says "Legend of the Final Hero," press and hold the A, B, and C buttons and the start button. If you do it correctly, you'll see a chapter select screen.

Problem is if you mess it up you could damage your system and any one of the two games used to perform this cheat. Is Last Blade, a game Electronic Gaming Monthly called Last Blade an "average kung-fu kicker with a nice suit on," really worth risking your games and system? Who cares if you go the rest of your life without knowing what happens at the end of this 1988 brawler?

Perhaps the better question is, how the HELL did anybody figure this code out in the first place?? What kind of gamer sits there yanking their games out of the system just to try to get a stage select?? Is Last Battle that boring??

Whatever the answer is to these burning questions, at least this isn't the kind of code we still see. Todays gamer wouldn't put up with this kind of hassle; they're too busy looking up codes for their Action Replay or GameShark.
