The People vs. Defunct Games

Back in December Defunct Games promoted what we called our first interview. It featured a woman by the name of Dawn Gilbert who had more than a few off-the-wall claims most people had a hard time believing. This wasn't just a funny story, this turned out to be one of the biggest articles Defunct Games had ever posted, leading to hundreds of emails and plenty of rumors that I had made the whole thing up.

The other day I got an angry letter from Dawn who had finally read my piece; she huffed and she puffed, and she ended up trying to blow my house down. Currently we are not on speaking terms, and the last thing she said was that she was going to contact the FCC and get a hold of an attorney. She warned me that I should expect a lawsuit soon, so I better apologize or else. I'm not the kind of guy who likes to be blackmailed, so I figured I'd publicly show you what she sent me, and my official response. However, before you dig into the two sides, I suggest you read our original interview, an article we called the Alleged Corruption of Sony!

(Editor's Note: Dawn's letter is extremely difficult to read and tends to ramble a lot. Since she got after me for correcting her grammar, I decided not to fix her spelling and structure problems. Make sure and read the entire letter, though, it's worth getting her point of view. Plus it shows you that we did not make this stuff up. We'll do our best to keep you posted if and when we are sued and jailed.)

One More Thing: I am not the first person Dawn has gone after. According to her website she has contacted numerous other editors, and have had similar conversations. At one point she admits that she has been "sending copies of this letter to every press contact available" and that the "only reply being to get a lawyer, which they all know I can't afford." Although the page does not offer any letters about me, it is worth noting that she has an extremely angry email to Copyright Information, presumably just after they responded with nothing but laughter. She's angry with High Times, as well. It's worth paying attention to the one thing she's used in both her conversations with me and others, and that's her handicap. Because High Times wouldn't take her story she concluded that they "deliberately abused and discriminated against the handicapped" and "if this isn't direct proof I don't know what is?" Looks like Dawn is a one-trick pony. At least we learned a few things about Dawn's real character. Both her emails and her webpage give her address and phone number ... and I'll admit, I'm half tempted to call her and see what the real deal is. I don't like being threatened!
