Capcom Generation 2

Anybody over 18 will surely remember Sir Arthur, a bumbling knight who has the bad luck of tracking down his true love and fighting the hordes of hell in the mean time. Sir Arthur's journey's would take him through three different adventures, on three very different game systems.

Each game in this collection is a perfect port, improving on some of the imperfections of the base system. Ghosts 'N Goblins (the original) plays slightly faster and does not feature the sluggish control that plagued the Nintendo Entertainment System version. Ghouls 'N Ghosts features the missing colors and graphics not found in the Genesis port of the arcade classic. And Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts resolves the problem of slowdowns, one of the glaring problems with the Super NES version.

This collection also features an extensive collection of classic illustrations, posters, and conceptual artwork. Like the other Capcom Generation discs, this second collection is easy to navigate through, fast to load, and highly configurable. When it comes to the layout of the disc there are no real complaints.

The games themselves hold up extremely well for their age. Ghosts 'N Goblins is definitely the least fun of the batch, featuring rudimentary levels, a slow combat system, and frustrating control (leading to way too many unnecessary deaths). The game is a lot of fun to play, but like most games of the mid eighties, Ghosts 'N Goblins doesn't have much in the way of rewards.

Ghouls 'N Ghosts is probably my favorite of the series. It doesn't have the graphics of it's sequel, but it features the Strider-esque sword, a lot of super cool power moves, and the best level design I've ever seen. The game also introducing enemies that vomit on you.

Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts adds enough to make it a worth while sequel, but it doesn't have the great levels Ghouls 'N Ghosts has. Since Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts has no slowdowns on the Saturn, this might be the first time many people enjoy the game. Like all of the games on the disc, Sir Arthur needs to complete the game TWICE to actually save the damsel in distress.

This Capcom Generation's disc isn't going to wow anybody with it's graphic might, it's pretty old school looking ... but for anybody who does, or does not remember who great these games were, this collection is for you. Each game has enough to offer to keep you satisfied for quite a while. And you're friends will love it. It's a shame this never made its way to the U.S., but if you're daring, this is my personal favorite of Capcom's Generation discs. A real winning all the way through.
