As I'm sure you already know, Sega has FINALLY decided to give us Saturn fans the sequel we've all been waiting for. No, it's not Fighters Megamix 2. Nor is it Burning Soldiers 2. And I don't think we'll ever see Panzer Dragoon Saga Orta. But we do get the next best thing ? NiGHTS into Dreams 2. Of course, it's not actually called that (as far as I know), but that's exactly what it is.

NiGHTS 2 is being developed for the Wii (though, Sega has yet to rule out a release on other systems) and will feature new levels, new characters, new secrets and a new style of game play. Oh, and it's going to have online support ? but I wouldn't get too excited, because the multiplayer mode in the original game was complete garbage (and so far the Wii's online features haven't been proven yet). Having said that, it's exciting to see one of those cult classics finally resurrected. I've talked about this game before in the past, so I cannot tell you how good it is to have confirmation and pictures to back it up.

But let's not get too excited about this project just yet. While I can't wait to try it out, I'm also a bit guarded about how it will actually end up. The original NiGHTS hasn't held up well, and I do worry about what they are going to add to the series. And then there's the fact that nobody who made the first game is actually working on this, instead it's being headed up by the team that brought us Shadow the Hedgehog. The way Sega has handled Sonic should give all NiGHTS fans a bit of a pause. I'm crossing my fingers that it will be good.

Obviously very little is known, but it's nice to see NiGHTS brought back. Here's hoping they come up with a better name than NiGHTS Into Dreams 2. I wouldn't mind DrEAMS into Nightmares, but that's just me.
